In a significant development aimed at improving connectivity, the Najafgarh Road, which links Gurugram and Delhi, is set to be upgraded to six lanes.
This project is a collaborative effort between the Haryana and Delhi governments, overseen by the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB). The upgrade promises to ease traffic congestion and enhance the commute between these two major cities.
Current Status and the Need for Expansion
Currently, the section of Najafgarh Road that falls within Gurugram is already a six-lane road. However, the section within Delhi is only two lanes wide.
This discrepancy creates a bottleneck, leading to traffic jams and longer travel times. To address this issue, the Delhi government has proposed an expansion plan to widen its segment of the road to six lanes as well.

Estimated Cost and Land Requirement
The Delhi government has prepared an estimate for the project, which is expected to cost around ₹48.71 crores. This expansion will require approximately 25 acres of land.
The land acquisition process is still under discussion, with uncertainty about whether it will be handled by the Haryana government or the Delhi government, and who will bear the acquisition costs.
Surveys and Planning
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has already conducted a survey of the Delhi portion of the road to assess the requirements for widening. The findings have been communicated to the NCRPB to facilitate coordinated planning and execution of the project.
