Lupita Nyong’o goes silent to stay alive amid an alien invasion of New York City in the trailer for John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place: Day One, which dropped on Wednesday.

The prequel’s teaser opens to Nyong’o walking peacefully with a cat in her arms when a nearby crash signals the first horrific moments of blind, monster-like aliens crashing to Earth and hunting down anything that makes a sound.

A Quiet Place: Day One diverges from worlds of A Quiet Place 1 and Part II in following Nyong’o as she navigates a New York City in which aliens run amok and terrified people run for cover amid apocalyptic devastation.

A Quiet Place: Day One

The Paramount film, set for a June 28, 2024 release, is based on an original idea from A Quiet Place filmmaker Krasinski, and is directed by Pig’s Michael Sarnoski, who also wrote the script.

Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou and Denis O’Hare also star.

A Quiet Place became a surprise smash in 2018, turning Krasinski into an A-list director. It earned $340.9 million globally, with the sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, grossing $297.3 million globally in 2021.

A Quiet Place 3 is in the works for a 2025 release. Krasinski wrote and directed A Quiet Place Part II, which opened in May 2021 as the first tentpole to exclusively hit theaters following a months-long shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. It grossed $297 million globally, a strong showing amid the pandemic.
