Benedict is seen in the trailer with matted brown hair and a muddied face, worlds away from his usual clean-cut look.
The plot revolves around a downtrodden Jerusalemite who tries to influence the Messiah for personal gain through celebrity.
According to IMDB, the journey takes him on an unexpected path and exploration of faith.

The picture, which also stars Teyana Taylor and James McAvoy, is produced by Jay-Z.
It’s not the first time Benedict has stunned fans with his movie disguises.
Last year, the Sherlock star appeared alongside Ralph Fiennes and Dev Patel in The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.
Benedict played the titular Henry Sugar, a rich man who learns about a guru in India who can see without using his eyes.
The man claims he can see through thin objects such as paper or playing cards and has used it to make money.
Henry sets out to master the same skill so he can cheat at gambling.
In pictures released as the film dropped on Netflix, Benedict could be seen in an array of disguises while playing Henry.
