In a shocking incident, two passengers on a Juneyao Airlines flight from Guiyang in southwestern China to Shanghai locked a crying toddler in an aeroplane bathroom on Saturday (24th August).
Notably, the incident went viral on Chinese social media after one of the two women, Gou Tingting, shared a video of herself bringing the girl inside the plane toilet. Tingting claimed that she was attempting to help others on board. However, her actions attracted severe backlash.
Later, the airline stated that the girl’s grandmother had permitted the two women to “educate her”. It added that the toddler’s grandmother was waiting at the restroom door when the incident unfolded.
Gou Tingting said in the caption for the now-deleted video, which was shared on Douyin [Chinese TikTok], that the child’s crying was so loud that passengers used tissues to block it out.
“I just wanted to calm the child down and let everyone rest,” Tingting said.
According to reports, one of the women in the video could be heard telling the screaming toddler that she will not let the child out unless she stopped crying.
