Mahindra & Mahindra is gearing up to launch its second all-electric vehicle for the Indian market in the final quarter of this fiscal year. The highly anticipated model, the XUV700-based XUV.e8, will debut between January and March 2025.
The XUV.e8, showcased in its concept form alongside other XUV.e and BE concepts a couple of years ago, has been spotted testing multiple times in its near-production guise on Indian roads.
This model will be the first to sit on Mahindra’s new INGLO platform, which is a dedicated architecture for electric vehicles.
Major Investment Plans
Mahindra has announced an ambitious plan to allocate ₹27,000 crore to its automotive vertical over the next three years.
This investment includes ₹14,000 crore for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and ₹12,000 crore for electric vehicles (EVs) during this fiscal year and up to FY2026-27. Specifically, ₹8,500 crore will be invested in SUVs and ₹4,000 crore in commercial vehicles under the ICE vehicle segment.
Embracing Alternative Fuel Technologies
Mahindra is also exploring alternative fuel options and technologies, including hybrids, based on market demand. While ICE SUVs will remain crucial for volume growth in the near future, starting from 2025, Mahindra plans to expand its zero-emission portfolio across different segments as part of its transition towards sustainable mobility.
SUV Range and Sales Performance
Mahindra’s SUV range has consistently achieved strong sales, thanks to increased production and reduced waiting periods. The brand aims to maintain this momentum with the upcoming launch of the XUV 3OO. The compact SUV received over 50,000 bookings within less than 60 minutes of opening reservations.
INGLO Platform and Future Models
Mahindra’s born-electric INGLO architecture, debuting with the XUV.e8, is at an advanced stage of validation and production commencement. By 2030, Mahindra plans to introduce 9 ICE SUVs, 7 battery electric vehicles, and 7 light commercial vehicles. Within the ICE segment, Mahindra intends to launch 5 new SUVs and implement 3 mid-life updates.
Upcoming Launches
In August 2024, Mahindra will launch the five-door version of the Thar. The next generation of the Bolero is also in the works. Following the XUV.e8, the BE.05 is expected to launch, with the XUV.e9 and other models from the BE range also on the horizon.
