Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer, is reportedly planning to equip its popular Grand Vitara SUV with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This move is expected to further enhance the safety of the vehicle and make it more appealing to buyers.

ADAS: A Game-Changer for Safety

ADAS technology uses a combination of cameras and sensors to improve driver awareness and safety. Key features of ADAS include:

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB): Automatically applies the brakes to avoid or mitigate collisions.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC): Maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead by automatically adjusting the speed.

  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW): Alerts the driver if the vehicle drifts out of its lane unintentionally.
  • Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR): Detects and displays traffic signs to the driver.
  • Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM): Alerts the driver of vehicles in their blind spot.

If implemented, this would be a first for Maruti Suzuki, as none of their current models offer ADAS. This addition would bring the Grand Vitara on par with safety features offered by competitors like Tata Motors.

Expected Launch and Impact

The ADAS-equipped Grand Vitara is expected to launch by the end of 2024. Maruti Suzuki began working on incorporating ADAS into the Grand Vitara last year.

This upgrade is expected to significantly enhance the Grand Vitara’s safety, potentially leading to a rise in sales.

Current Safety Features

The current Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara already comes equipped with several safety features, including:

  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
  • Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
  • Central locking
  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP)

  • Hill Hold Assist
  • ISOFIX child seat anchors
  • Reverse camera
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

The addition of ADAS will further solidify the Grand Vitara’s reputation as a safe and reliable SUV.

Additional Information:

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is currently available in both petrol and CNG options, with prices starting at ₹12.57 lakhs (ex-showroom). The CNG variant boasts an impressive mileage of 26.6 km/kg, as claimed by the company.

With the introduction of ADAS, the Grand Vitara is poised to become an even more compelling option for Indian car buyers seeking a safe, efficient, and technologically advanced SUV.
